Empowering Positive Change Worldwide
History and Inspiration
The Blossom Foundation for Children and the Environment was founded in 1999 by musician and humanitarian Carol Baraniecki Sullivan Tewksbury, whose own experiences with abuse and neglect as a child profoundly shaped her journey. As a young teen, Carol faced such severe mistreatment—both at home and at school—that she lost the ability to speak. She found her voice again by singing softly to her John Denver records, which not only helped her rediscover her voice but renewed her will to live. Denver's music inspired Carol with messages of love, compassion, and the belief that, together, people can create real change.
Now in her 60s and a mother, Carol established the Blossom Foundation for Children and the Environment as a resource for those looking to make a difference for children and the environment on a global scale. The foundation does not accept donations. Instead, Carol encourages people to support established organizations making a positive impact, saying, “There are organizations out there doing good work around the world. Please support them. Everyone can make a difference.”

MEET our founder
Carol believes in teaching children about the existence of the God who created us and who loves us. Join your local church, synagogue, or mosque. Attend regular religious services with your family, friends, and neighbors. It is only through moral and religious instruction, along with tolerance of the religion of others, will the world become a kinder, better place.
Carol found inspiration in the lives and works of people like John Denver, Pearl S. Buck, Maya Angelou, and Buckminster Fuller.
We don’t have to accept the world as it is.
Each of us has the power to implement change—some efforts small, others monumental—to help the world and its inhabitants.
As ShuiHu Chuan said, "All Men Are Brothers." We are one.
When you begin to feel the pain of the hungry in Ethiopia or the sorrow of the unloved older orphan in Moscow, you can also feel their joy when they’re given a chance at a better life—a life filled with love, health care, education, enough food, and hope for the future.
